Valentine Treats

We celebrated Valentine's week! It started as we prepared Valentine's for Katie's 11 classmates and 2 teachers over the weekend, as well as getting things ready for grandparents and other friends so they could go in the mail. Katie was EXCITED about Valentine's Day - starting Sunday afternoon! She only goes to school on Monday and Tuesday so their party was on Tuesday. It was simple, (perfect for 2 year olds) they made mudpies (chocolate pudding in ice-cream cones with red and pink sprinkles). We decorated a box for her Valentine's and she really raked in the candy! This led to the second bit of confusion. Now, not only does Katie think that Valentine's Day lasts for a week, but she also thinks that it's a time to collect "trick or treats". One friend gave Katie a cute little bag with handles and hearts on it, she carried it around with her during the rest of the week. As we would leave the house she would say, "I'm going to bring this in case they have some trick or treats to give me." Once the treats stopped appearing Katie has reverted back to her rock collecting. The pink bucket has retired to the laundry room (still full of rocks) and now the heart bag is hanging on the hall door ready for our daily ventures outside, about 3/4 full of rocks.

Oh, and one more cute Valentine's Story, at school on Tuesday morning another little girl came in to the classroom and with her mom urging her, "What do you say?" she grinned and said, "Merry Christmas!" as she handed her teacher a Valentine. We all smiled and her mother said, "No, it's something that comes after Christmas." The little girl thought for a moment and said, "Happy New Year!" At that point we couldn't help but laugh. This was VERY amusing to me until my daughter received that little bag I told you about up above - trick or treat!

This is a cool story and a nice blog. Thank you Katie for the nice Valentine present. You know what? Next time I'll see if I can bring something for your little bag. Actually, I was going to bring it today but Mommy got busy talking to her Mom on the phone and we forgot about it.
